salt

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

friend

Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered!

Psalm 32:1 of David

David the psalmist, in his youth, was chosen by God to be king        (1 Samuel 16). The LORD said to him: ‘You will shepherd My people Israel, and you will be a ruler over Israel’ (2 Samuel 5:2). The life of David is recorded in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. Additional references to his life, his adoration of God, and the fulfillment of the purpose of his life therewith, exist throughout the New Testament.

Acts 13:22 NASB
...He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I HAVE FOUND DAVID the son of Jesse, A MAN AFTER MY HEART, who will do all My [a]will.’
Footnotes:
Acts 13:22 Lit wishes

The Christ was a descendant of David. David was under the old covenant, and according to the Law of Moses.
We, however, are offered forgiveness by grace through Christ, the Son of God; under the new covenant in His blood. We find God's requirements for salvation in the New Testament of the Holy Bible.

"What must I do to obtain salvation?", you might ask.

The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.
3 John 1:1-4 NASB

Clearly, we can learn the way of salvation by reading the entire Holy Bible.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NASB
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

If we desire to increase our faith and please God; and learn how to become members of the body of Christ and God's kingdom - both now & for eternity - then that is what we must do. To speak from my own experience, I will share with you that I've participated in bible study for over 20 years; but, this year is the first time I am reading it in its entirety...chronologically (in a way that follows the order in which events or records occurred). What better way to spend my time while I stay-at-home! Here is the resource I am using for my daily reading schedule:

In the meantime, you don't have to wait until after you have read the entire bible to obey the gospel & obtain salvation. If you desire to obtain salvation now, rather than waiting, please consider this:

On the day of Pentecost - the day the assembly of Christ was established - the apostle Peter instructed those that desired redemption:

Acts 2:38 NASB
Peter said to them, “Repent,...

You've probably heard this word proclaimed, "Repent!"
Often, people will say, "Repent of your sins",
as if to say: "Turn from your sins".

Many will use the example of the U-turn sign, saying

it means to change direction; to turn from wickedness to God.

This is a good time for me to share with you a valuable resource a beloved friend shared with me:

Click on the following link and see the original Greek language and meaning of the word repent:

https://biblehub.com/greek/3340.htm

3340. metanoeó (met-an-o-eh'-o): to change one's mind or purpose.

By this we understand, upon hearing the word of God, the first step in the pursuit of salvation is to change our mind and purpose. In order to consider coming under subjection to our Creator, we must be willing to change the way we think. After all, thoughts lead to action, right? We can't expect to turn from wickedness to righteousness without changing our actions, right? Many people who have never read the bible already know that, don't they? Reading the word of God, hearing His call to righteousness, recognizing we are sinners, developing a heart of contrition, humbling ourselves and obeying our Maker requires us to change our mind and purpose.

Acts 2:38 NASB, continued:
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized...

Again, let's check out the meaning of the word:

https://biblehub.com/greek/907.htm

907. baptizó (bap-tid'-zo): to dip, sink

For a Scriptural example of this, read the illustrative account of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch:

Acts 2:38 NASB, continued:
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name...

https://biblehub.com/greek/3686.htm

3686. onoma (on'-om-ah): a name, authority, cause

Acts 4:12 NASB
And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.

Acts 2:38 NASB, continued:
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ...

https://biblehub.com/greek/5547.htm

5547. Christos (khris-tos'): the Anointed One, Messiah, Christ

Yeshua (translated Jesus), the only begotten Son of God, is the Christ.

Hear Peter’s earlier confession to Yeshua:

Matthew 16:15-16 NASB
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Acts 2:38 NASB, continued:
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins...

https://biblehub.com/greek/859.htm

859. aphesis (af'-es-is) : dismissal, release, fig. pardon

Pardon - Hallelujah!

Acts 2:38 NASB, continued:
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins...

https://biblehub.com/greek/266.htm

266. hamartia (ham-ar-tee'-ah): a sin, failure

Romans 3:23 NASB
...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,...

The foundation of the gospel (the good news of the coming of the Messiah) is the death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua the Christ.

1 Peter 1:3-5 NASB
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

To gain a better understanding of how your dipping in His name for the forgiveness of your sins relates to this, I urge you to read Romans, chapter 6. Using the following link to read it, when you see a word you wish to define, simply hold/hover your mouse pointer (cursor) over the word, and the word & definition will appear; or, Click On the word.

Verse 4 of Romans 6:
Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

This leads us to take into account also:

Romans 10:9-10 NASB
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

If, at any time, you desire to ask questions or study the Scriptures with someone, or even be dipped into Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, notify us (Contact Us tab) and we will connect you with a member of the body of Christ. Across America we know elders who oversee and shepherd the flock of God, and they are available and ready to serve you.

May God bless you with a heartfelt knowledge of His great love for you.

John 10:9-10 NASB
I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved,
and will go in and out and find pasture.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
- Yeshua, the good shepherd

We look forward to hearing from you!

For the love of Christ controls us,

having concluded this,
that one died for all,
therefore all died;
and He died for all,
so that they who live might
no longer live for themselves,
but for Him who died
and rose again on their behalf.
